Binary Knitting, 2005 -

An ongoing investigation into the translation of binary coded data into knitted textiles. The samples shown above represent an excerpt of dialogue as spoken by HAL in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968).

The Snow Cover Project
These prototypes will be further developed by using snow cover data from the past 50 years for 12 major Canadian cities as recorded by Environment Canada. The data for each month is translated into binary code and knitted. Each city will be a continuous strip and joined together to create a blanket thus transforming the code into a tactile surface providing warmth and comfort.
