| Ethnocultural Portrait of Canada, 2001, 2007 |
This portrait, represented as a chart, expresses
93 different ethnic origins as declared by Canadians in the 2001
census by Statistics Canada. Census data provides a storehouse of
information that can be translated into a full-bodied cultural reading
of our national identity, one that reflects our true colours. As
such, every Canadian who identified their origin participated in
the construction of the artwork. The result is a multi-coloured,
multi-cultural, visualization that is both intimate and panoramic
allowing for a micro and macro reading of what it is to be Canadian. Collaborators: Angela Iarocci, Claire Ironside |
